Review: Glass Onion brings a new mystery for Daniel Craig to solve

Daniel Craig has left James Bond behind but the paychecks will keep coming for his new recurring role as famed detective Benoit Blanc.

After the first smash-hit Knives Out there is a new mystery afoot for Blanc to solve - and it's called Glass Onion.

Knives Out was a five-star barnstormer of a whodunnit and I adored every single minute of it.

Now filmmaker Rian Johnson brings back our new favourite detective for another murderous adventure with a whole new cast of suspects. This is Glass Onion.

We are in COVID-times, and our group of privileged preeners are invited to a private island in Greece by their ridiculously obscenely wealthy friend Miles. Also invited is Blanc.

The whos, the whys, the clues, the chaos ensue, inviting the audience to soak up the fun as the guessing game reveals which of our dastardly disrupters have turned deadly.

Johnson is a master storyteller and knows how to spin a hugely entertaining yarn with a handpicked classy cast. Glass Onion doesn't live up to the cinematic perfection of his first Knives Out but there's plenty of onion goodness here to savour.

Four stars.
