Sam Neill says he is "fine" and has been in remission from stage 3 blood cancer for eight months.
The 75-year-old and star of movies and shows including Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders said he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in March last year and had since undergone extensive treatment.
In interviews with UK media including the BBC, previewing his memoir Did I Ever Tell you This? Neill spoke of his initial reactions to the diagnosis.
"I'm crook, I'm dying," he said.
However in an Instagram post Neill said he is "alive and well and I have been in remission for eight months , which feels really good.
"And I’m alive and kicking and I’m going to work. I’m very happy to be going back to work."
The Kiwi actor is about to start filming a new movie called An Apple Never Falls with Annette Benning.
In the post Neill said his cancer news was all over the place "and it’s sort of ‘Cancer ! Cancer! Cancer. Which is slightly tiresome."
"So here I am , and I just wish the headline wasn’t ‘that thing’ so much, because the main thing is that I have written this book , it’s called Did I Ever Tell You This?
Neill said he wrote his memoir because he couldn't work while he was being treated for cancer. He said he never thought he would have a career as an actor and enjoyed looking back over his life.
He ended the post saying "So I hope you enjoy it , and let’s not worry too much about ‘all that’ because I’m fine. Okay."
