Former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has dodged birthday cake duty this year for daughter Neve, instead, fiancé Clarke Gayford was tasked with whipping up a rainbow caterpillar cake.
In an Instagram post, Gayford said he was assigned a "tricky five-year-old client's cake brief" which "fluctuated wildy".
"Everything from swimming mermaids to a Disney castle that had its own car wash. Helped in no part by the client's mum [Ardern] who was very much enjoying my pain."
Ardern said on Instagram that her fiancé did a "great job pulling this one together" despite the multiple changes in the brief.
Gayford said "finally" Neve decided on a rainbow caterpillar, and mentioned his sister asked if it was a sea slug.
He also got a telling-off from Neve "because a rainbow caterpillar has 10 colours, not seven".
"But nonetheless job done for another year and we welcome having a five-year-old in our house," he said.
"Happy Birthday Nevey, such a big girl now."
"Happy birthday to our girl, and great work @clarkegayford - you're both the greatest," Ardern said in a separate Instagram post.
