People are expressing their frustration over a popular online conspiracy theory about pop star Taylor Swift which is being dismissed as "nonsense".
The bizarre claims insist the 'Love Story' hitmaker and her partner Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team, are an "artificial" couple created as part of a Democratic Party "psyop" (psychological operation).
The theory has been popularised amid Swift's increased presence at NFL games and ahead of the Super Bowl later this month.
It is claimed Swift and Kelce are secretly working for the US government to persuade music and sporting fans into voting for Joe Biden at the upcoming US presidential election.
Conspiracy theorists believe the Chiefs will defeat the San Francisco 49ers at the Super Bowl before Kelce proposes to Swift on the field, ahead of endorsing Biden.
"People will say anything about her. It's nonsense," one woman told news.com.au in New York about the conspiracy theory.
Several people on X, formerly Twitter, have also ridiculed the theory and its believers, with one person saying: "I don't agree. Sure the Government will attempt to use celebrities, but Swift isn't a Government psyop I'm sure."
Many far-right internet provocateurs who have propagated QAnon conspiracy theories about US politics, vaccines and other issues are throwing support behind the Swift claims.
"The NFL is totally RIGGED for the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor Swift, Mr. Pfizer (Travis Kelce). All to spread DEMOCRAT PROPAGANDA," influencer Mike Crispi tweeted.
"Calling it now: KC wins, goes to Super Bowl, Swift comes out at the halftime show and 'endorses' Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield. It's all been an op since day one."
In response, sports commentator Keith Olbermann tweeted: "You may be the dumbest man alive. Please donate your brain to science - you'll never know it's gone."
