AM newsreader Nicky Styris was taken on a hilarious and "embarrassing" birthday trip down memory lane by her co-hosts live on air this morning.
Lloyd Burr and Melissa Chan-Green surprised Styris by revealing her long-forgotten past as the runner-up in the 1989 Miss New Zealand Universe pageant.
Video played on air showed Styris (then Nicky Walker) trampolining, dancing and twirling on stage during the telecast of the pageant.
"Where did you find that? I don't even have a copy of that!" said Styris.
One archive clip showed Styris answering a question from host Bob Parker about what she would do if she was taking a long train journey overseas, but found someone sitting in her seat.
She said she would ask them if it was their seat, and if there was an issue, call someone to help.
But a follow-up question prompted a more curious answer.
"What say they don't speak English?" asked Parker.
"I would attempt to speak their language," she replied.
The old clip of the then 22-year-old Styris left her and her co-hosts in fits of laughter.
"Oh my God! That was so embarrassing," Styris told Burr and Chan-Green.
"It's put me in good stead for answering questions on the hop."
She was given some real gifts by the team for her birthday too.
Burr knitted her a beanie and Chan-Green handed her an oversized fake Supergold card.
"You make me want to cry," said Styris.
"I don't think I've ever had a birthday quite so special."
