Dylan Mulvaney dreams of starring in a transgender remake of Legally Blonde, giving a new spin on the Elle Woods role made famous by Reese Witherspoon.
The trans influencer has achieved international recognition through documenting her gender transition on TikTok, a high-profile interview with US President Joe Biden and a controversial partnership with beer brand Bud Light.
But Mulvaney started her career in the theatre, touring across North America as one of the principal cast members of the hit musical The Book of Mormon.
During a recent interview she said her dream theatre role is to play Glinda in the musical Wicked, but her "dream dream" is to portray the Harvard Law School student from the hit 2001 film in a remake that featured multiple trans roles.
"My dream though is to do a trans Legally Blonde," Mulvaney told IMDb during SXSW.
"I wanna play Elle Woods and have maybe a trans Emmett and a trans Paulette. And I think what's so cool about plugging trans people into existing stories is it inherently changes what the topic is, but in a way that you don't actually have to do much to the script because it becomes something different - but actually, I think it makes it even more powerful."
While Witherspoon portrayed Woods in the original film, Emmett was played by Luke Wilson and Paulette by Jennifer Coolidge.
Legally Blonde, based on the novel by Amanda Brown, spawned a sequel in 2003 titled Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. A third instalment was initially set to be released in 2020 but has been delayed until a currently unknown later date.
In the interview Mulvaney also named Chris Colfer as the musical artist she'd most like to collaborate with.
