They say all good things must come to an end and this Friday it'll be peace out from Newshub.

If you're just catching up, Newshub's owner Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) announced earlier this year that it would shut its New Zealand news service on July 5. That spells the end for this website, the Newshub app and Newshub's TV news programmes.

After 7:30pm this Friday, there will be no new news updates on Newshub.co.nz, the Newshub app and our social media accounts. The last broadcasts of AM and Newshub Live at 6pm will air on television on the same day.

Our newsroom has been operating as the Newshub brand since 2016 and has been delivering the 6pm news on TV3 since 1989.

There will still be a 6pm news programme on Three after Newshub closes, produced by Stuff. The new programme will be called ThreeNews and Newshub's Samantha Hayes has been named as the main presenter.

The Newshub web domain will remain active as a holding site for Newshub's journalism for a period of time, while the archived stories are migrated on Stuff.co.nz.

Newshub's newsroom also produces Sky Open's news programme News First at 5:30 (previously Prime News), which will also be ending on July 5.

Hundreds of thousands of Kiwis have chosen Newshub as their source of news over the years. If you are one of them, please know we have truly valued your loyal support for our journalism.

Why is Newshub closing down?

Earlier this year, WBD announced plans to close its news operation as part of a major restructure of its New Zealand business. It said at the time it was due to "a combination of very strong economic headwinds both in New Zealand and the global market".
