A successul new treatment for enlarged prostates is now being offered to Australian men for the first time.
Almost 50 percent of men over the age of 50 will develop an enlarged prostate, 7 News reports.
A new treatment called Rezum, developed by the famous Mayo Clinic in New York, has seen such positive results that it's expected to become standard treatment around the world.
It is a day procedure and can be completed in just 15 minutes, a doctor told 7 News.
The prostate tissue is injected with a small needle where it introduces steam to vaporise the tissue, which gets naturally reabsorbed by the body within a few days.
Symptoms of an enlarged prostate include excessive urination and a sense of incomplete bladder emptying.
It's the first treatment of its kind that's suitable for all men and has minimal side effects.
