A Chinese couple has been shocked to find out they were having sex wrong after visiting a doctor to discuss fertility issues.
The unnamed couple, aged 26 and 24, went to see Liu Hongmei earlier in 2018 to ask why they had not conceived after four years of marriage, The Daily Mail reports.
Dr Liu asked the couple about their sex life and they said they had been having sex regularly, but the wife admitted it was often painful for her.
She underwent an examination to check for gynaecological issues and Dr Liu found nothing was wrong.
Further investigations made Dr Liu realise the couple had been having anal intercourse, which offers no chance of conception.
"Four years of marriage and neither the husband nor wife knew how to get pregnant. Couples so lacking in general knowledge are very rare," she told The Guiyang Evening News.
"But it is not uncommon for people to lack or have misconceptions regarding sexual knowledge."
She offered them advice on how to conceive via vaginal sex and sent them on their way. The couple successfully conceived a child a few months later.
According to Newsweek, China's sex education system is seriously lacking. Chinese students at Beijing Normal School protested the lack of proper teaching in May.
"Adult videos can't be our sex education, universities must say yes to sex education," one of the signs read.
