Since Māori Language Week began in 1975, Kiwis have been embracing the culture in increasing numbers - and they've also been embracing the food.
Kiwi chef Monique Fiso says New Zealanders are turning to Māori cooking techniques and ingredients for inspiration in their kitchens.
"More restaurants are using Māori ingredients now, not just as a random garnish to be quirky but actually heroing it. It's been a wild ride," she told Newshub in June.
