How likely would you be to order delivery for a restaurant within walking distance?

That's exactly what Uber's new trial of 'walking deliveries' aims to find out.

It has started trials in Auckland Central, hoping to decrease delivery time by eliminating the need for finding parking and driving around busy central city streets.

Uber Eats' NZ Country Manager Andy Bowie said traffic congestion can make it challenging to complete deliveries quickly.

"Finding a park, picking up an order, and driving to another location in less than 15 minutes once an order is ready becomes unrealistic at peak times."

He said these delays "cause frustration for both restaurant-partners and eaters" and, if walking delivery works, could provide a solution.

This delivery style is not available for Uber Eats partners yet, having only been in trial phases for one week.

Walking Uber Eats deliveries are already available in Mexico City, Hong Kong, and New York City.
