An Auckland woman has received the best Easter gift she could've imagined: a $16.2 million Lotto win.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, plays MyLotto regularly and it's finally paid off.
She overheard on the radio someone from Auckland had won the jackpot, and remembered she hadn't checked her ticket yet.
"I logged in to MyLotto and the draw started straight away. As each ball dropped, a number was circled on my ticket," she said.
"When it got to the fourth number I thought 'No way' but they just kept coming - it was unbelievable!"
She immediately burst in to tears.
"I immediately jumped up from the table and started dancing around the room. I was laughing and crying at the same time - I didn't know what to do with myself," she said.
She called her husband, who raced home to see the news for himself.
But when he arrived and tooted his horn, expecting his wife to come running, she didn't emerge.
"[I was] expecting her to come running out, but she didn't come," he said.
His wife had found an unusual way to calm herself down.
"I was so excited and had all this energy; I wanted to calm myself down before my husband got home. So I decided to grab the exercycle, put it in front of the telly and start pedalling!"
Once the pair had both calmed down, they decided to take their time deciding what to do with their winnings.
"This is completely life-changing for us," said the woman. "We're going to invest most of it, help out friends and family, and give it to charity."
The pair also plans to travel.
"We could probably go to the Rugby World Cup now!"
