A transparent mesh dress for sale online has drawn ridicule, with many questioning why a dress seemingly made of bubble wrap would be so expensive.
- All the times ASOS got it really wrong
- Internet mocks ASOS for selling $141 jeans with crotch removed
The garment by UK brand Jaded London is being sold on popular online clothing store ASOS for £68 ($NZ151).
Described on the page as having a "sequin-embellished design, cowl neck and slim fit", the listing adds: "If Beyonce's done it head-to-toe then you know you're onto a good thing."
Presumably, the makers are referring to the Beyonce's sequin and mesh Givenchy gown at the Met Gala in 2015, which I would say was... different.
The listing also emphasises that "this one is totally see through", which, yes - we got from the pictures, thank you.
However they want to sell it, many aren't buying the hype, with people turning to Twitter to question why you would pay so much for so little.
"Anyone want to go out in a dress that looks like bubble wrap?" one person asked.
"Hey capitalism some people [are] actually stupid enough to buy ASOS see-through 'bubble wrap' dress," wrote another.
"£68 for piece of bubble wrap?? Is this #fashion," another questioned.
Also listed on the website is this "metallic mesh pool party dress" by And Co, which has a very similar effect and is only £14.50 (NZ$28).
Last year, ASOS shocked customers with a pair of "buttless jeans", which drew similar levels of confusion and scorn.
