A list of the top regions when it comes to romance has been released just in time for Valentine's Day.
The rankings, compiled by discount site Picodi.com, used a combination of statistics from Google searches about romantic queries from each region.
Canterbury topped the list, followed by Gisborne, Auckland, Wellington, and Waikato.
It seems rain may deter romance. The South Island's West Coast came in at 16th - last place.
The top five most romantic New Zealand regions:
Canterbury
It's the home of the picturesque Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, and the iconic French settlement of Akaroa - which are among the best romantic things to do in the region.
Gisborne
Perhaps one of the more surprising results - although it is the home of the famous New Year's festival Rhythm and Vines. Interestingly, the Tairawhiti region, which encompasses the city of Gisborne, topped the country for reported cases of gonorrhea and chlamydia for the 12 months ended March 2019.
Auckland
According to Tripadvisor, the Sky Tower, Auckland Botanic Gardens and Karekare Beach are among the most romantic spots in the City of Sails.
Wellington
The capital city was probably not voted in the top five because of the relationship between Simon Bridges and Winston Peters in the city's Parliament House.
It is, however, home to Te Papa museum, and of course, the iconic cable cars.
Waikato
Those awful cowbells at Chiefs Super Rugby games, believe it or not, aren't enough to deter romance.
According to Tripadvisor, the Hamilton Gardens have fabulous river views and are internationally recognised - perfect for a romantic stroll whether you're from New Zealand or abroad.
