Thanks to the pandemic lockdowns meaning more time spent at home than ever, this year has been absolutely huge for New Zealanders buying sex toys.
According to a spokesperson for Wellington-based adult toy retailer Adult Toy Megastore, it was their biggest year ever, with COVID-19 restrictions prompted a tripling of sex toy sales in the 48 hours before the March lockdown.
Sales to Australia for the site doubled on March 22 when Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced bars would close, and in Britain on March 21 when Boris Johnson announced the same thing happened.
But which toys came out on top?
Of course, the behemoth known as the Satisfyer Pro was crowned the country’s favourite, with its popularity only growing.
"It's a phenomenon that’s for sure," Adult Toy Megastore owner and operator Nicola Relph says.
"It's word of mouth. People just love the toy so they tell everyone they know."
The "reliable and old school" Bullet vibrator came in second, but a new entry is hot on its toes - Share Satisfaction's Kama only launched a few months ago is already sitting in third place.
Nicola Relph says Kama could overtake the Satisfyer Pro to become the retailer's fastest-selling toy in history.
"It came out of nowhere but the best toys often do. I think next year it might be number one."
She also revealed that for the first time ever an anal toy made the top 10 - The Amore beaded chain.
This beginner toy is indicative of how many New Zealanders tried out new things over lockdown.
