A Mount Maunganui dog is now an online sensation after apparently making an unexpected - and rather X-rated - discovery on the beach: A dildo.
James O'Connor posted in the Mount Maunganui community page thanking whoever had left the prized possession behind for two-year-old Barni.
"Thanks to the person or persons who left their toy on the beach, Barni loved it but didn't [bring it] home though," O'Connor wrote, thanking his friends Jesse and Demi who had been walking the dog and got the lucky job of "pulling it off him".
O'Connor told the Herald his friends had taken Barni for a walk while he and his partner were in the hospital for the birth of their daughter.
On receiving photos of Barni's exciting find, they "couldn't stop laughing".
He added the rescue pup has a habit of commandeering toys from other dogs, but a sex toy was a first.
O'Connor's post in the Mount community group quickly went viral, racking up almost 3000 likes and over 800 comments, mostly from people tagging in their friends.
"Oh that's where I left it - is it still in one piece?" one woman joked.
"That won't be going in the toy library," another person commented.
We hope Barni gets a new toy in celebration of his newfound celebrity status - a more G-rated one.
