Sovereign Messiah, Royal'Tee, Souljah and Tovia-Justyss were just a few of the, ah, creative baby names that didn't quite make the cut in New Zealand last year. And it turns out our mulleted mates across the ditch are bestowing little blokes and sheilas with a few questionable names of their own.

Each year, Kidspot writer Sabrina Rogers-Anderson compiles a list of the most bogan baby names in Australia, taking into account new trends and monikers that have risen in popularity over the preceding 12 months.

While royalty tends to be the prevailing theme among Aotearoa's rejected baby names (think Saint, King and Princess), Roger-Anderson believes baby names in 'Straya are slowly becoming more and more, well, made-up.

"I've been noticing a trend emerging in the bogan baby name underworld in the past year: made-up monikers seem to be overtaking misspelt ones (though there are still plenty of those too)," she wrote in her latest Kidspot column.

"No longer content with butchering the spelling of regular names, Aussie parents are going back to the drawing board to invent brand-spanking-new horrors for their offspring."

To preface, Rogers-Anderson has made it clear in the past that her compilations of "bogan musings" are intended to be good-natured and humorous, not mocking.

"We all have a bit of bogan in us that needs to be celebrated. Truth be told, I can't help but like some of these names just a little bit," she admitted in 2018.

So without further ado, grab that box of Victoria Bitter, chuck on some ugg boots and rev the Commodore; it's time to enjoy the list of Australia's most bogan baby names for 2022.
