For two years we have been bereft of the cultural phenomenon that is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, an event where the world's elite and mere mortals alike stomp around the California desert in designer footwear as an impressive lineup of performers take the stage.

The beloved festival has garnered a reputation as a melting pot of fashion, music, art and people, where luminaries sit on the dusty ground a sandal's throw away from a gaggle of college girls.

Washing the typically arid Colorado Desert with a sea of sequins and shimmer, fashion has always been at the fore of the festival, and this year is no exception. The throngs partying before the likes of Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and Harry Styles are teeming with denim, diamantes, Dr Martens - and truckloads of fringe. Models clad in cowboy boots and crochet hark back to a bygone era, the halcyon days of '70s peace and love, while others parade in the platform boots and punchy prints popularised by TikTok's tastemakers.
