Julia Fox has well and truly cemented herself in the cultural conversation, and honestly, I'm not mad about it.
From her whirlwind romance with Kanye West to her Amy Winehouse 2.0 eyeliner and the utterly iconic 'Uncuuhhhh JaaamZ', Fox, who I didn't know anything about prior to January, has suddenly built a career out of meme-orable moments - and yes, she "actually did it" herself.
In March, the 32-year-old made international headlines after she rocked up to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party with a clawed hand around her neck and human hair as an accessory. The month prior, she officially entered every Gen Z-er's lexicon when she discussed being Josh Safdie's muse for the 2019 film, Uncut Gems. And now, Fox has "jahHhmEd" her way back into public discourse by wearing a set of underwear to do her grocery shopping.
Stepping out for a trip to her local supermarket in Los Angeles last weekend, West's former flame was photographed wearing a set of sporty black and white underwear, teamed with a denim blazer and matching slouchy boots. And before you clutch your pearls and ask, 'where in God's name are her pants?' - don't fret - she's actually carrying them. As a handbag.
It's a masterpiece, if I do say so myself.
Fox was then snapped emerging from the supermarket, pushing a bag-laden trolley just like any other domestic goddess would.
While the look is not something I recommend mere mortals to recreate, Fox argued that wearing underwear as outerwear should be normalised and become socially acceptable. Yes, just what we've always wanted - seeing complete strangers strutting around the local Countdown in a pair of knickers.
"I think that if it's socially acceptable at the beach, it should be the same everywhere, lol," Fox later mused on her Instagram Story.
She subsequently shared photos from the outing to her 1.3 million followers, captioning the snaps: "My vibe is just preparing for the apocalypse [right now]."
To be fair, if an apocalypse actually happened, you wouldn't really have time to grab anything else - and you also wouldn't want to be bogged down by too many layers. So with the world in its current state, maybe we should all start wearing less clothes, just in case.
The Italian-American model and actor first rose to prominence following her debut performance in Uncut Gems in 2019. Aside from the comedy-thriller, she has starred in three other projects, including 2021's No Sudden Move.
However, Fox's 'big break' arguably came in January 2022 when it was confirmed she was dating controversial rapper Kanye West, thrusting the burgeoning but little-known actor into the spotlight. The whirlwind relationship was short-lived however, with the two splitting a mere six weeks later. A few days after, Fox claimed she dated West purely to "give people something to talk about" amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
So what else is on Fox's agenda? Apparently the mum-of-one has a book in the works, announcing at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party that she "doesn't want to give too much of it away", but it's "so far a masterpiece".
"It was like a memoir at first, but now it's just like, my first book."
