An unconventional restaurant where the wait-staff are allowed to trash-talk customers is coming to Aotearoa.
Australian restaurant chain Karen's Diner is heading to Auckland for a limited time, allowing Kiwis to experience the eatery's, ah, 'unique' brand of hospitality.
In a statement, Auckland events platform Hidden Auckland said the "unforgettable" pop-up dining experience will be established at a yet-to-be-revealed location in the suburb of Mount Eden.
"This is dining with a twist - the food is great, and the service is ungrateful, but your experience will be unforgettable.
"Karen's is a diner like no other - expect turbulent service, singing waiters and regular guest appearances from the manager - the biggest Karen of them all.
"Don't expect special treatment at this diner because it's all about Karen, and she won't be taking any of your nonsense! Come have some fun and wind the staff up to unleash your inner Karen - and see their full Karen potential."
Karen's Diner first opened in Sydney and became a hit among patrons across the Tasman, with the staff going viral on social media for their savage service and frequent roasting of customers.
The restaurant, styled as a 1960s' diner, serves classic all-American dishes such as chicken wings, burgers and fries.
Australian social media influencer Jamie Zhu took his uncle to the infamous diner in Sydney, but cheekily didn't mention that it's actually the waiters' job to be rude.
Hidden Auckland said Zhu's uncle would make a great employee at the restaurant after he reportedly swore at the waitress and told the chefs to "piss off" when he dined there.
The pop-up dining experience is available for Aucklanders to experience from August until November 2022.
