Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of Lotus Biscoff, the deliciously caramelised biscuit-turned-spread that experienced a rapid resurgence in 2020.
Confined to our homes with nothing but time and a deadly virus on our doorsteps, the world preoccupied itself with a little-known phenomenon called TikTok - and baking. Lots and lots of baking.
Biscoff has long proliferated the video-sharing app, with snappy recipes for Biscoff cheesecakes, blondies and 'cookie casseroles' taking TikTok by storm. But now, Biscoff buffs can snag a brand-new treat straight from the supermarket shelves - KitKat Chunky with Lotus Biscoff has officially arrived in Aotearoa.
The collaboration, which first launched in Australia before making its way to the UK in April, celebrates the best of both the iconic confections - combining the crisp, oven-baked wafer finger of KitKat Chunky with the beloved biscuit spread of Lotus Biscoff.
"We've seen an undeniable love for both KitKat and Lotus Biscoff and are so thrilled to unite these flavour sensations to create a new range for Kiwis," said Nestlé New Zealand's head of marketing, Fern Castellanos.
"We want to excite KitKat fans with a tasty new texture experience that would leave them longing for their next break."
Lotus Biscoff global brand director, Kathleen Buyst, added that the classic Belgian biscuit company - which first launched its original biscuits in 1932 - is delighted to collaborate with KitKat.
"We are very excited to offer an exciting combination of Biscoff's creamy spread, crunchy Biscoff crumbs and KitKat's classic milk chocolate and crispy wafers," she continued.
The new KitKat Chunky with Lotus Biscoff is now available to purchase at supermarkets and convenience retailers nationwide.
