US woman shares frustration after being unable to land a job despite 76 applications

A woman has gone viral after she shared her frustrations over not being able to find a job despite numerous applications.

In a TikTok that boasts more than 1.4 million views, the woman, who goes by the name Kayley Alissa, shared how she has applied for 76 jobs over the past few months but has yet to even land an interview.

Kayley, who worked in marketing and social media, said she was blind-sided in May when her company downsized and eliminated her position.

Kayley said she gave herself one week off before she began putting in applications, but eight weeks and 76 submissions later, she hasn't heard anything back.

"Seventy-six applications and I've not had one interview. I've not had any interest whatsoever," she said in the clip. "Y'all cannot tell me that companies are struggling, that they don't have any workers, when you're not hiring anyone."

According to the US Chamber of Commerce, the US is experiencing a labour shortage with the latest data showing there are over 10 million job openings in the US - but only around six million unemployed workers.

Despite these reports, Kayley asked if anyone else had experienced a similar ordeal - and the responses came flooding in.

"I see 'help wanted' signs everywhere but then they won't even call you after you apply," one person said.

"I've been looking for two years. I apply to hundreds of jobs every month and I've had one interview," a second shared.

Some users advised Kayley to simplify her résumé to improve her chances of landing a job.

"So this is like absolutely correct and this is what I keep seeing… people don't want those big chunky [CVs] anymore and I've done that, let me show you," Kayley said in a follow-up clip.

She proceeded to show viewers her résumé, which consisted of a photo, blurb, contact information, skills, experience, references, education and a QR code that takes the recruiter to a more detailed page about her previous work.

"I don't think people are really even looking at my stuff… something I'm doing is not getting seen by people."

Kayley has since redone her CV to a simple format with bullet points and has not included her photo or the QR code.

While she still hasn't landed a job, she has been getting interviews and hopes employment is just around the corner.
