Meet the husband and wife on a mission to create first-ever life-sized wharenui hand-made out of wool

Crochet is an ancient art that has stood the test of time, and one husband and wife duo are on a mission to create the first ever life-size wharenui - hand-made out of wool.

And the crocheting duo Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole hope to have their unique Kiwi project finished in time for Matariki next year.

Rudi told The Project those who visit the Wharenui Harikoa (House of Joy) will make you feel like "you're in your favourite blanket your nanny made you".

Lissy said their mission is to transform intergenerational trauma into "deeply felt joy one loop at a time".

She said the wharenui is for everybody but especially for Māori.

"Rudi and I feel so strongly that it is a space of deep, deep mihi and deep aroha for our people to be embraced," she told The Project.
