Queen Elizabeth death: Royal family shares book of condolence for supporters to send tributes

There has been an international outpouring of grief following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday (local time) - and Kiwis wanting to pay tribute to Britain's longest-reigning monarch can now also offer their condolences.

A book of condolence is currently available on the royal family's official website, allowing anyone to share a tribute to Her Majesty or words of support to her loved ones.

The Queen died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Thursday, aged 96, after her health deteriorated.

A selection of the messages sent through the online form will be passed onto members of the royal family and may be held in the Royal Archives for posterity.

The form, which requires a name, email and location, welcomes anyone to send a message of condolence to the family, who experienced a rapid reshuffling of titles and positions following the death of the monarch. The Queen's eldest son acceded to the throne upon her death, becoming King Charles III. His wife, Camilla, is now Queen consort of the United Kingdom. Meanwhile Charles' eldest son, William, Prince of Wales, is now heir apparent to the British throne.

"An online book of condolence is available on our website where you can send a tribute to Her Majesty The Queen," the royal family's official Twitter account tweeted on Monday, with a link to the book.
