A wild night of bingo, karaoke and strippers lifted pensioners' spirits at a retirement home in Taiwan.
While it was probably not the most appropriate place to get pulses racing, people have come to the defence of the Taoyuan Veterans Home, which received backlash for hiring a stripper to dance on pensioners' laps.
The home for retired army personnel paid adult entertainers to perform an X-rated show to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.
In a video that was filmed by an attendee and uploaded to social media, pensioners can be seen applauding the woman as she performed and gave one elderly man a lap dance.
However, management at the aged care facility have since had to apologise after being slammed online for organising the show.
"The intention of the event was to entertain residents and make them happy. We are very sorry for the offence that was caused," a spokesperson said.
They said the aim of the show was to raise residents' spirits after previous Mid-Autumn Festival shows were cancelled due to COVID-19.
Staff from the government-run facility told local media bingo was played in the nursing hall and the residents also ate mooncakes and sang karaoke to celebrate.
But supporters of the nursing home's choice of entertainment have rushed to its defence.
"They have nothing to apologize for!!!" one person tweeted.
"It's so weird to infantilize or project onto elders. I’ve seen so many videos of strippers performing for nursing homes who love it, try to mimic the moves, and have so much fun talking to and admiring the dancers. It's like any other act!" another said.
