While the red-carpeted world of the rich and famous is enviable in theory with its private jets and million-dollar paychecks, if the last few decades of pop culture have taught us anything, it's that being in the spotlight isn't all it's cracked up to be.
For one, you're constantly held to higher standards than other human beings, and two, it appears - according to history, at least - it's nigh impossible for our famed counterparts to maintain a relationship; unless they're Bey and Jay (elevator-gate), Will and Jada ("entanglement"), or SJP and Matthew Broderick (#goals), of course.
With that being said, 2022 has once again been a graveyard for celebrity couplings, and there's still three months to go. It truly appears Hollywood is the place relationships go to die. As of now, the couple of the moment, Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles, appear to be on thin ice (only just dispelling split rumours with a PDA-packed date night), and a few weeks ago, Leo DiCaprio split from his girlfriend of four years, model Camila Morrone - who, of course, had recently turned 25. In August, polarising pair Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian also called it quits after nine months of dating.
Bringing you the ghost of pop culture's past, we've rounded up some of the most high-profile celebrity splits of the year thus far. Note: this is not an exhaustive list (we'd be here all day).
Paul Wesley and Ines de Ramon
The Vampire Diaries star and de Ramon decided to split after more than three years of marriage, it was confirmed earlier this month. The former couple's rep confirmed the news to People, saying: "The decision to separate is mutual and occurred five months ago. They request privacy at this time."
Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone
These two called it quits in August after more than four years of dating (and about two months after Morrone celebrated her 25th birthday), prompting a slew of hilarious memes that documented DiCaprio's well-known penchant for women who have yet to hit a quarter-of-a-century. I guess that ruled me out as one of Leo's potential lovers eight days ago.
Olivia Rodrigo and Zack Bia
A source told Us Weekly in August that the former couple's relationship "sort of fizzled", citing "different work schedules and different friend groups". The 19-year-old 'good 4 u' hitmaker was previously linked to producer Adam Faze, but it's understood to have come to an end in January.
Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin
Us Weekly confirmed in August that former model Flavin filed for divorce from the Rocky actor one week prior - three months after they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. However, recent reports suggest they have since reconciled.
Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser
Although the reason behind the split remains unknown, the former couple called it quits in August after eight years of marriage. The two met on the set of Mad Men.
Zach Braff and Florence Pugh
In a Harper's Bazaar cover story published in August, Pugh confirmed she and the Scrubs alum had split after three years of dating. "We've been trying to do this separation without the world knowing, because it's been a relationship that everybody has an opinion on," the actress told the magazine. "We just felt something like this would really do us the benefit of not having millions of people telling us how happy they are that we're not together. So we've done that. I automatically get a lumpy throat when I talk about it."
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson
In August, multiple sources confirmed the divisive duo had decided to be "just friends", apparently due to their conflicting schedules. They dated for nine months, but were plagued with drama - primarily due to Kardashian's ex-husband Kanye 'Ye' West, repeatedly targeting the couple with angry rants and tirades on social media.
Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard
After EmRata was spotted without a ring, a source confirmed in July she had split from her husband of four years, film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. The source told People: "They split recently. It was Em's decision. She is doing okay. She is strong and focused on her son. She loves being a mom." It has since been alleged that Bear-McClard was unfaithful to the model, and rumours have swirled that Ratajkowksi and Brad Pitt have since been getting cosy.
Jerry Hall and Rupert Murdoch
The supermodel filed for divorce from Murdoch after six years of marriage, it was confirmed in July.
Johnny Knoxville and Naomi Nelson
Us Weekly confirmed the Jackass alum filed for divorce on June 15 after nearly 12 years of marriage.
Kendall Jenner and Devin Booker
Entertainment Tonight broke the news in June, with a source claiming that Jenner felt she and her NBA beau were "on different paths" and "not on the same page". However, these two have since reunited, according to reports.
Michael B Jordan and Lori Harvey
News broke that Michael B Jordan and Lori Harvey had split after a year and a half of dating on June 4. A source told People: "Michael and Lori are both completely heartbroken. They still love each other. Michael matured a lot over the course of their relationship and was ready to commit for the long-term. He let down his guard with her, opening up emotionally in a romantic relationship for the first time. They had great times together and brought out the best in each other."
Shakira and Gerard Piqué
Shakira and her partner of 11 years, Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué, announced their split in a joint statement in early June, saying: "We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect."
Trevor Noah and Minka Kelly
The Daily Show host and the actress called it quits (again) in May after about two years of dating, with a source telling Us Weekly that the couple had been "broken up for a while" but "everything is amicable".
Busy Philipps and Marc Silverstein
The Cougar Town actress announced in May that she and her screenwriter husband had separated after nearly 15 years of marriage. "It's been a really long time that Marc and I have been separated, and our kids know, our families know, our friends know," she said on her podcast, Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best.
Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers
The actress and American football quarterback have broken up twice this year, but it looks like they're officially done. The two first called off their engagement in February before reuniting, but ended - seemingly for good - in April, with a source claiming "everything was on his terms".
Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus
April marked the third time Tish filed for divorce, with Us Weekly obtaining court documents in which Tish cited "irreconcilable differences", adding she and Billy - whom she married in 1993 - had not "cohabited as man and wife for a continuous period of more than two years".
Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon
"After 39 years as a couple, we are now on separate life paths. We remain legally married, coparents, coworkers and business partners," the Ghostbusters star and Dixon told People in a joint statement on April 29. "This is our choice in loving friendship."
Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis
Us Weekly reported that the actor and Peaky Blinders actress had broken up after four years of dating in early March, with a source claiming the pair hadn't been together "for a few months" before reports of the split emerged. It's unclear why they called it quits.
Julia Fox and Kanye West
There was no way I was going to leave this one out. This was the moment most of the world discovered who Julia 'UnCuhhh JaMs' Fox was, marking the beginning of a truly iconic year of outrageous outfits, insane eyeliner and human hair purses, as well as the unforgettable, "I actually did it myself". The couple managed a month and a half before ending their whirlwind relationship in February, with Fox sharing to Instagram: "Kanye and I are on good terms! I have love for him but I wasn't in love w the man, Jesus Christ what do u guys think I am, 12 years old [sic]?!"
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet
How on earth did this happen in January? It literally feels like a week ago. The Aquaman star and Bonet announced their separation after four years of marriage, dropping the bombshell news with the joint statement: "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times - a revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception - feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring. And so we share our family news that we are parting ways in marriage."
