A woman has suffered a horrific ordeal after her daughter's dog defecated in her mouth while she was sleeping.
Amanda Gommo, 51, was having an afternoon nap with the chihuahua when it developed diarrhoea.
The Bristol woman was sleeping with her mouth open when the accident occurred, with some of the faeces ending up in her mouth.
"I was having my afternoon nap with Belle like I always do when I suddenly felt something squirt in my mouth," Gommo said.
As reported by the Mirror, the 51-year-old ran to the bathroom and vomited to try to get the dog's excrement out of her system.
"It was disgusting, and I was hurling violently for hours after - I just couldn't get the taste out of my mouth."
After the ghastly accident, the dog was taken to the vet, diagnosed with a stomach bug and given antibiotics.
Later that day, Gommo started to display the same symptoms as the chihuahua and called an ambulance as a precaution, Mirror reported.
But her symptoms became worse after the paramedics left and 48 hours later, another ambulance was called to take her to the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
"They sent an ambulance the second time, and I was so dehydrated from being sick and having diarrhoea that my kidneys had shrivelled to half their size," Gommo said.
At the infirmary, Gommo was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal infection passed on to her by the dog.
The 51-year-old was hooked up to a drip and kept in hospital for three days to be rehydrated with electrolytes and glucose.
Gommo, who also suffers from Crohn's disease, said: "From the moment I got ill to when I was put on the drip, I couldn't eat a thing."
When she was discharged from the hospital the discharge note said the infection was caused by a dog defecating in her mouth, something the doctors had never witnessed before.
