The Wellington bar that created a cost of living burger during the month of August has raised $11,000 in donations for the Wellington City Mission.
The Welsh Dragon Bar rolled out their cost of living burger, priced at $9.76, which was the exact amount it cost to make.
In a tweet, the city central bar said they were overwhelmed with the support from Wellingtonians while the burger was available.
"To every single person that has discussed it, shared it, came along and enjoyed a burger or paid for someone else to have one: diolch, diolch, diolch [thanks, thanks, thanks]."
The bar raised $10,000 in donations and has since rounded it up to $11,000, with all of it to be donated to the Wellington City Mission.
"We are grateful beyond measure to everyone who was able to donate," the bar tweeted.
City Missioner Murray Edridge told Newshub he and the Welsh Dragon Bar weren't expecting donations to climb as high as they did.
"It's deeply appreciated, we are delighted with the money that was raised, it was an awesome initiative," he said.
"Once again it reflects the innovation from the team at Welsh Dragon Bar and the generosity of the Wellingtonians."
Edridge told Newshub the large donation has come at a time of high need, as people are hit hard by the cost of living crisis.
"We're seeing significant demand because of the price of things, some of this money will go towards food supplies for people who need it.
"You rarely get situations where everybody wins, but this is one of them."
