Fire authorities have reissued a warning over a dangerous trend that continues to be popular on the likes of TikTok.

The trend, which began in 2020, involves attempting to cook a piece of steak in a toaster.

The continued popularity of the trend prompted the London Fire Brigade to tweet an urgent fire safety warning this week.

"What you having for dinner? This #ElectricalSafetyWeek we're reminding people to only use electrical products for their designated use. Don't cook steaks in a toaster," they tweeted on Wednesday (local time).

One TikTok user who popularised the trend was @itsmeju1iette, who in 2020 shared a video of her cooking steak in a toaster for her boyfriend.

In the video, she puts two raw pieces of steak straight into the toaster.

Commenters at the time were less than impressed by her cooking skills.

One person commented: "I feel sorry for your boyfriend."

Another person said: "That's also how you ruin a toaster."

Despite the London Fire Brigade and commentators online warning people not to participate in the trend, people have continued to try it to varying degrees of success.

Several people also commented on the London Fire Brigade's tweet about the cooking method.

"How to cook your steak, more like how to burn your house down," one person commented.

Another said: "You must be joking, I can't believe anyone would really do that."

A third person added: "Anyone that would even consider doing this has rocks for brains."
