Filipino-style garlic butter prawns

This beloved Filipino dish has a secret ingredient – soda or Sprite! The soda with the garlicy, buttery prawns enhances the crustaceans' natural sweetness.

It's also super easy to whip up as prawns only need a few minutes to cook, making a juicy addition to any dinner table.

Ingredients

Serves 4 

  • ½ kg large prawns, shells intact and deveined
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2-3 pieces of red and green chillies, sliced in half
  • 2 tbsp parsley
  • ⅓ block salted butter
  • ½ cup banana ketchup
  • 1-2 tbsp chilli sauce
  • ½ cup sweetened soda/sprite
  • cooking oil
  • salt.

Instructions

1. Stir fry garlic

  • In a wok or frying pan, stir fry the garlic until fragrant.

2. Cook prawns

  • Add in the salted butter and let it melt. 
  • Add in the prawns and cook for one to two minutes or until they turn red.

3. Add soda to pan

  • Add in the soda, cover the pan and bring to a boil.
  • Lower the heat and let it simmer for about two to three minutes.

4. Cook the prawns with sauce

  • Add in the banana ketchup, chilli sauce, sliced chilli and parsley.
  • Continue to stir for another three to five minutes and until the prawns are evenly coated with the sauce.

5. Plate and serve

  • Serve with garlic chips and chopped parsley. Enjoy!
