Tickets are on sale to an upcoming event at Wellington's Sky Stadium at which there will not be any attendees at all.

No matter what sort of pass you purchase - whether it be $10 for general admission or $2000 for a corporate box - you won't actually be able to get into the venue.

Silent Night will take place on December 21 and 100 percent of the cost of each ticket sold will go to the Wellington City Mission.

It's being put on to help generate emergency fundraising as the charity says it's experiencing demand more than four times greater than pre-COVID-19 levels, with a spike expected at Christmas time amid the cost-of-living crisis.

It's hoped Silent Night will be a sell-out and all 34,000 tickets are bought.

"We are asking the public to help us by supporting the feel-good event of the year, coming together as a community to raise important funds to help our fellow Wellingtonians by buying a ticket and not attending," said Wellington City Missioner Murray Edridge.

"We are living in a time of extraordinary difficulty that impacts all of us, but not evenly. For those doing life hard, the increasing prices in the supermarket and for housing are difficult to weather.

"This extra financial pressure means that many families will struggle to put food on the table, or presents under the tree, with some individuals finding themselves increasingly socially isolated at this time of year.

"Let's fill the Sky Stadium with nothing but your generosity this Christmas."

The money raised through Silent Night will support things like the Social Supermarket which enables clients to choose the food they need, as well as a free toy store that lets parents choose a gift for their children.

It will also help Wellington City Mission provide a festive lunch for people in transitional housing and offer food deliveries so people can celebrate in their own homes.

More information and ticket sales can be found on the Sky Stadium website.
