The word 'Wordle' has been revealed as Google's most-searched word for 2022.
The popular guessing game, which requires people to figure out a five-letter word in six attempts, was Google's most popular search across the globe, according to the tech company's Year in Search report.
Some of the most popular Google searches in New Zealand this year included 'locations of interest', 'how to find Matariki', and 'Queen Elizabeth II'.
The BBC reported a number of global events impacted people's Google searches. Those included Queen Elizabeth's death, actor Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock live at the Oscars, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The death of Queen Elizabeth II in September was widely searched as it meant the end of her 70-year reign. And in March, actor Will Smith made headlines for slapping comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars after the comedian made a joke about Smith's wife.
The invasion of Ukraine, which began in February, sparked global interest after Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed he didn't want to occupy Ukraine, but to demilitarise it and "de-Nazify" the nation.
In New Zealand, the most-searched New Zealanders on Google were Clarke Gayford, Ryan Fox, Zoi Sadowski-Synott, Lydia Ko, and Israel Adesanya.
