Oppo has revealed its latest foldable phone range, including one model set to be sold in New Zealand.
The Find N2 and N2 Flip appear to be intended as direct competitors to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip handsets.
Oppo's new phones were unveiled alongside other new tech including AR smart glasses and a family health monitor at the Chinese company's Inno Day 2022 event.
Of all the devices, however, it's the foldable phones that are creating the most buzz online.
"The newest devices in the Find N series push the boundaries of the foldable smartphone experience, with a thin and light hand feel, almost invisible crease and industry-leading performance," Oppo said.
"Both smartphones will launch in the China market following the unveiling at INNO Day 2022, while the Find N2 Flip will become OPPO's first new form factor device to launch in global markets next year."
Oppo NZ confirmed to Newshub it plans to sell the N2 Flip in Aotearoa in 2023, but exactly when it will be released here and for what price is yet to be announced.
In China, the N2 Flip starts at CNY¥5999, which is about NZ$1350 at the time of writing. That is for a version with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, but there is also a 16GB RAM plus 512GB storage variant going for CNY¥6999 (about NZ$1570).
The N2 Flip is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chip with a 4300mAh battery that supports fast-charging Oppo said will deliver 34 percent in 15 minutes, or go from 0 to 100 percent in about 57 minutes.
When it's closed, the N2 Flip sports a 3.26-inch display with a resolution of 720x382. Oppo described that as "the largest cover screen on any flip phone, enhancing users' experience with a more functional portrait display to perform critical daily tasks like viewing up to six notifications at a time and more easily previewing photos taken by the flagship-level camera system".
The main, internal screen is 6.8 inches with a 1-120Hz dynamic refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1600 nits.
As for its photo-taking ability, the N2 Flip packs a 50MP f/1.8 main camera and an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera on the back along with a 32MP f/2.4 selfie camera.
The phone weighs 191g and comes in three colours: black, purple and gold.
Samsung has been selling premium foldable phones at retail outlets in New Zealand for years but it's not just Oppo that has been expanding into the market internationally. Xiaomi, Motorola and Huawei have also released foldables.
