'You are the world's biggest idiot': AM hosts react to burnout at petrol station gone wrong

Opinions on burnouts were divided on AM on Wednesday after footage emerged showing one which went disastrously wrong.

The footage shows an 18-year-old attempting a burnout at an American petrol station when he lost control of his car and crashed into a petrol pump.

The pump then burst into flames and the driver sped away.

But police caught up with him a short time later and he was arrested and admitted to starting the fire.

It didn't go down well with AM co-host Melissa Chan-Green, who suggested he was "the world's biggest idiot".

"I'm sorry, but if you try and do a burnout at a petrol station you are the world's biggest idiot, surely," Chan-Green said. "Doing a burnout anyway is a bit idiotic."

However, co-host Ryan Bridge admitted "they can be fun".

"People go to car tracks and do it, that's okay," he clarified.
