If one accessory was wearing out its welcome on the Golden Globes' plush grey carpet, it was the opera glove. As the stars sparkled and shimmered at The Beverly Hilton, it was apparent that gloves continue to have celebrity stylists in a chokehold, with the likes of Britt Lower, Megan Stalter, Regina Hall and Natasha Lyonne all gloved up.
The accessory has made a bonafide comeback in recent times, appearing on many a red carpet during last year's awards season - and it appears they're still very much hand in glove (pardon the pun) with Hollywood's tastemakers in 2023. Adding a hint of vintage Old Hollywood glamour, the opera glove has since been elevated with different fabrics and textures, from Dominatrix-esque patent leather to understated sheer mesh and fingerless varieties.
With that being said, let's take a look at some of the gloves that graced the 80th Golden Globe Awards on Wednesday.
Regina Hall
The Scary Movie star took to the stage to present the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama (which went to Kevin Costner for Yellowstone) wearing a Monique Lhuillier vegan leather gown with matching fingerless opera gloves, paired with Yves Saint Laurent peep-toe pumps.
Britt Lower
Severance star Britt Lower rocked one of the evening's most standout looks, wearing a strapless black velvet and pink gown from New York designer Bach Mai's Pre Fall 2023 collection. The dress was teamed with black stiletto boots and leather opera gloves, accessorised with one sparkling pink gem on her pinky.
Natasha Lyonne
The Orange Is the New Black and Poker Face actress, who presented the award for Best Television Series - Drama (House of the Dragon), rocked a clingy Givenchy gown with full-length sleeves and black gloves, further accessorising her pointers with several glittering rings by David Webb layered over the top. She teamed the look with Stuart Weitzman patent platform boots.
Chloe Flower
Composer, writer and the Golden Globes' pianist, Chloe Flower, was snapped wearing a high-low Stéphane Rolland gown with matching white opera gloves.
Megan Stalter
Hacks' Megan Stalter styled her Versace gown with sheer mesh gloves, a sparkling silver purse and her ink on full display, giving Angie's iconic flash of leg a run for its money.
Emma D'Arcy
Another one of the night's most talked-about looks, the House of the Dragon actor channelled Wednesday Addams with her punk-adjacent ensemble, teaming an Acne Studios oversized suit jacket with a black skirt layered over coordinating trousers. To accessorise, D'Arcy added a black corsage and pops of purplish blue, from a blue tear on their face to their crop of bluish hair and matching gloves.
"I was going for a 'child prodigy at the big piano recital' sort of look, except we added a single tear to the make-up, so I guess the recital went really badly," the actor said of their look before the ceremony. "I'm wearing a skirt and trousers, because nothing says 'non-binary' like wearing trousers and a skirt simultaneously."
Dolly de Leon
Triangle Of Sadness star Dolly De Leon, who made history as the first Filipina actress to be nominated, was snapped on the grey carpet in a black leather creation by Norman René Devera, complete with a chiffon halter, matching opera gloves and sparkling jewels.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri was a vision in pale blue, teaming her deconstructed Cinderella-eseque two-piece by Rosie Assoulin with a pair of opera gloves in a contrasting gold hue and Brilliant Earth jewels.
