The SAG Awards' red carpet was a sartorial talking point on Sunday night (local time), showcasing the very best in celebrity fashion - from Zendaya's strapless silk masterpiece to Emily Blunt's figure-hugging floral ensemble and Paul Mescal's bejewelled overcoat.
Stars of the small and silver screens made statements with their saturated hues (yellow was definitely having a moment), sparkles, spangles and playful detailing, but none more so than Christina Applegate, who rocked the red carpet with a customised cane amid her battle with multiple sclerosis (MS).
The Sweetest Thing actor, 51, attended the awards with her 12-year-old daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble, candidly conceding the ceremony may be her "last awards show as an actor" following her MS diagnosis in 2021.
Appearing on the red carpet at the Fairmont Century Plaza in California, the Emmy winner carried a custom black and white cane emblazoned with 'FU MS' (f**k you, MS), her daughter's name and a bedazzled heart, among other embellishments.
As a united front, Applegate clutched her daughter's hand as they posed for their picture, both donned in all black. The 51-year-old cut a glamorous figure in a custom Christian Siriano velvet tuxedo-style gown with a dramatic train, which she teamed with Dr Martens, a red lip and loose waves, while Sadie sported a structured double-breasted blazer and black pants - also custom Siriano - teamed with a newsboy cap and Dr Martens.
"This is a strong, powerful woman right here! Dressing Christina tonight was such an honor," Siriano said in a post to his Instagram, alongside a photo of Applegate and Sadie on the red carpet.
"MS is such a nasty, unforgiving disease but I'm so proud of this woman tonight for showing up and proving [to] the world what she can do... We say FU MS."
Neo-Walk, the company behind Applegate's custom walking stick, also shared their support for the actor, writing on Instagram: "We are so proud to work with this gorgeous lady. Proud to call her my friend... We will be working closely with Christina to support MS charities."
Applegate, who was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Jen Harding in the Netflix series Dead To Me, ultimately lost her category to Jean Smart, who took home the award for her performance in the HBO hit Hacks.
Ahead of the ceremony, Applegate told the Los Angeles Times the awards show may be her last as an on-screen actor.
"It's my last awards show as an actor, probably, so it's kind of a big deal," Applegate said. "Right now, I couldn't imagine getting up at 5am and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don't have that in me at this moment."
However, Applegate is not planning on stepping away from the spotlight altogether, telling the outlet she hopes to do a "shit-ton of voiceovers" to make sure her "daughter's fed and we're homed".
The actor announced she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in August 2021 while shooting the third and final season of Dead To Me. The show premiered in 2019 and aired its final episode in November 2022.
In her conversation with the LA Times, Christina admitted she was "a wreck every day" on set of the final season as she struggled with her symptoms, with production taking a five-month break in 2021 so she could undergo treatment.
"There were times I'd break down on set and be like, 'I can't, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour', and everyone was so loving that it was OK," she added.
Elsewhere on the red carpet, stars showcased a fondness for florals, with all eyes on Euphoria star Zendaya's custom Valentino dress embroidered with almost 200 silk roses.
Emily Blunt's red-and-pink Oscar de la Renta number also wowed with its intricate appliqué flowers, and Paul Mescal rocked a sheer overcoat with playful floral detailing.
Meanwhile, Everything Everywhere All at Once star Stephanie Hsu stunned in a floral red-and-pink Carolina Herrera gown with an extravagant train.
Other standouts included Jenny Ortega in a vintage leather and silk gown from Versace's Fall-Winter 1994 collection, Angela Bassett in a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture yellow tulle dress and Danielle Deadwyler's hand-embroidered, sequinned white-and-pink custom ombré gown by Louis Vuitton.
