New hybrid variants of the turbocharged Suzuki Vitara are coming to New Zealand promising better fuel economy and lower emissions.
In the official combined fuel tests, the Vitara Hybrid Turbo is at least 15 percent more economical than a comparable non-hybrid Vitara, while also boasting up to 18 percent lower CO2 emissions, Suzuki said.
The three petrol mild hybrids will soon be on offer to customers in Aotearoa, each powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine combined with a 48V mild hybrid system, making an overall 95kW and 235Nm. Peak torque is said to be 15 Nm higher than the non-hybrid turbo model.
Standard equipment on the hybrids includes hill hold control, a reversing camera, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and hands-free calling.
All three Vitara hybrids qualify for the Government's Clean Car Discount, ranging from a little more than $1600 to just under $2900.
The recommended retail prices for the new models are:
- 1.4T Hybrid JX 2WD manual from $39,990
- 1.4T Hybrid JLX auto from $41,990
- 1.4T Hybrid JLX AWD auto from $44,990.
Each model can be specified with an optional two-tone body colour for an additional $800. On road costs are applicable to all three models.
