Barbie: Turn your space into your own Barbie and Ken Malibu Dreamhouse with Barbie-themed home decor

There's a little-known movie called Barbie coming out this month - have you heard of it?

The Greta Gerwig-directed blockbuster is leaving a permanent pink stain across social media, with Barbie-themed fashion, furniture, beauty and even Airbnbs permeating many a 'For You' page.

Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, has been painting the town pink in her fabulous on-theme outfits throughout the ongoing press tour, with her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, drawing inspiration from many of the Mattel doll's iconic looks. It truly is Barbie's world, and we're just living in it.

You can now rent Barbie's DreamHouse on Airbnb and it is fantastic

While Barbiecore has long been on the scene, Barbie-themed decor is also having its moment - particularly following the arrival of Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse to Airbnb last month.

The pink pad - which will be available to rent in California later this July - has been styled to reflect both Barbie and Ken's aesthetics, with the listing noting that Ken has added "a few touches" to bring some "much-needed Kenergy" to the newly renovated mansion.

"I've decked out the place with a little more… well, me! My cowboy stuff is great. And horses! Guitars, games and more. And of course, rollerblades, because I literally go nowhere without them," boasts the listing, purportedly written by Ken himself.

While life in plastic isn't fantastic for the environment, any budding interior decorator hoping to take their home decor from drab to DreamHouse should be embracing the kitsch, camp and yes, overtly plastic-fantastic.

For a true nod to the Airbnb's aesthetic, the feminine should be met with hints of masc to reference the 'Kendom' vibe throughout - think western, saloon-style touches, like cowboy hats, boots, rustic trunks and (fake, very fake) horn ornaments and faux hide rugs.

As Ken says, this also feeds into equestrian elements: the DreamHouse itself features a lifesize horse (adorned in a feather boa), horse-printed throws and equestrian artwork, so don't be afraid to embrace your inner horse girl.

For a true Barbie and Ken-inspired pad, the abundance of pink should be offset with touches of blue - we're talking old-school, gender-normative colour palettes here. Barbie is from the '50s, after all. Plus, plenty of coastal, beachside touches to bring Malibu to you: think palm fronds, ocean-blue touches, relaxed seating and plants.
