A new range of Samsung products are on the way for Kiwis with their latest line of devices unveiled in South Korea this week.
The flagship devices revealed at the Unpacked event were the new Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5: two foldable smartphones that continue to stand out in the modern mobile market with their unique design, delivering flexibility and versatility without compromise.
AM's Mitch Redman was at the launch at the COEX Centre in South Korea this week among the more than 1300 people from across the globe who were treated to a 360 experience.
It's the first time Samsung has carried out a product launch of this scale in their home country, with previous events taking place in New York and San Francisco.
At the event, President and Head of Mobile Experience TM Roh said the new foldable phones continue to revolutionise the mobile industry.
"Every day, more people choose our foldables because they offer an experience people want that they can't get on any other device," he said.
One of the major changes to the Samsung Z Flip5 is the Flex Window, which will give users the chance to message, call and take photos without even needing to open the device.
Its 3.4-inch cover display is more than triple the size of its predecessor, which Samsung said unlocks many more opportunities.
"We're flipping the script on the mobile experience. When you hold the Flip5 in your hand, you're saying to the world 'I'm open to change'," Samsung's Mobile Experience Head of Marketing Stephanie Choi said.
The device looks set to be a hit with influencers and content creators as its updated camera specs will improve quality, and the flex provides the opportunity for angles most phones just cannot achieve.
Emmy-nominated actress Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria and The White Lotus was among those in the crowd and threw her support behind the Z Flip5. She stars in a video that shows off the unique personalisation, versatility and content creation abilities of the device.
Hardware upgrades to both the Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 will mean the devices now lie flat when closed or folded, unlike previous models which were hindered by the flex mechanism. It means both devices are now lighter and slimmer for a more comfortable experience.
"It's a technological breakthrough. These updates to the display hinge strengthen our latest foldables - the design is sleeker and more streamlined than ever," said Nils Dahl, Samsung's Director of Product and Technology Planning.
The latest Z series devices also unlock extraordinary camera capabilities and boast a strong performance and an optimised battery powered by the latest processor.
Among the other products unveiled at Unpacked was the Watch6 series, which offer improved sleep and health monitoring.
The 'classic' version of the Watch is also making a comeback, giving users smartwatch capabilities in a more traditional looking product.
A new line of Galaxy tablets are also on the way with three different models in the Tab S9 range being launched at Unpacked.
The price of Samsung's entry-level Z Flip5 model with storage of 256GB begins at $1879. The Z Fold5 which can function as both a phone and tablet starts at $2849.
Pre-orders for the new devices are open now with full details available on Samsung's website.
