Spring is a great time to refresh your home and painting can be a cheap way to revamp your surroundings while saving for a bigger reno.
Here are some tips for your spring paint-o-vation:
- Paint cabinetry
By repainting your kitchen and bathroom cabinetry you can transform the entire look and feel of the space. Simply clean them down, apply Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to help the paint stick, and follow with your favourite colour of Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss paint. Change the handles, add some bespoke styling items like luxe candles, new towels or dried florals and you'll feel like you have a fresh new room. - Paint your tiles
Many of us think we're stuck with our inherited tiles, but you can paint over them - and in a permanent way that won't just scratch off. Clean them down, apply Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer and topcoat - in Resene Walk-On for floors - or Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen for wall tiles. You can use masking tape to protect around the grout, or I prefer to paint over that too. - Paint furniture
Anything that has a great shape or profile, but say the wood is too orange or dark, will look like a brand-new item after painting. I like painting furniture like drawers, consoles, side tables or even dining chairs and smaller items like photo frames. - Paint your doors
Choose a darker version of your wall paint to paint your interior doors, using the building finishing lines as guides. Lightly sand the doors, fill any cracks and holes and prime, then finish with two coats of paint. - Paint a room
Paint a room that is often seen and used, like an entranceway. This gives you an accent colour to then use throughout the house to make the interior feel fresher. You can also paint in a feature, like a headboard, or panel the wall behind your bed and paint over it to add a bespoke look to the room.
