A multi-million McLaren supercar and Harold the Giraffe's former home have been revealed as some of Trade Me's top motor listings for 2023.
Trade Me announced its top 10 most popular motor listings from 2023 on Wednesday morning, with supercars, a celebrity yacht and a Holden Commodore capturing the hearts of the nation.
"The top listings of 2023 show Kiwis are into all sorts of vehicles, whether it be a soon-to-be classic or a million-dollar supercar," said Head of Trade Me Motors, Jayme Fuller.
Taking the top spot and claiming the title of Trade Me's number one motor listing with 156,979 views was a 2019 McLaren Senna GTR for supercar lovers.
"This 2019 McLaren Senna GTR had an eye-watering asking price of $3.25 million. It's an ultra-rare car, one of just 75 worldwide and reportedly the only in Aotearoa," Fuller said.
"The GTR, a more track-focused version of the Senna, can sprint to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and go as fast as 352 km/h. If that sounds impressive, this incredible machine also weighs less than a Suzuki Swift."
Nipping at the heels of the McLaren Senna in not only views but also speed was a 2018 Ford GT with 120,294 views.
"This GT is one of just two in Aotearoa and can reach 347km/h, making it the second rarest and second fastest of this year's top 10. It was also the second priciest with an equally hefty asking price of $1.95 million," Fuller said.
There was also a celebrity appearance to round out the podium, with Kim Dotcom's 1959 Cadillac coming third with 111,218 views.
"An Elvis pink Cadillac was reportedly one of many assets seized when Kim Dotcom's mansion was raided in 2012. More than 10 years later, it was up for auction and in fantastic condition," Fuller said.
Dotcom wasn't the only celebrity vehicle making the top 10 with the yacht of Kiwi broadcasting veteran Paul Henry coming in tenth. The yacht, Olive is named after Henry's late mother.
"This is a very personalised Van Der Heijden Explorer motor yacht which sailed into tenth place with over 47,000 views," Fuller said.
The third celebrity vehicle to crack the top 10 was once home to the most famous and beloved giraffe in Aotearoa.
"The Life Ed classroom has been an educational staple for tamariki and rangatahi for decades," Fuller said.
"Sadly, Harold's home was getting beyond repair, so it was time to move on. The auction raised over $22,000 for the Life Education Trust."
Incredibly, a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback made the top 10 for the second year in a row, this year in fourth place with 77,775 views.
"This year's Mustang actually started out as a coupe, before undergoing cosmetic surgery to give it the iconic fastback roofline," Fuller said.
Classic cars made a strong appearance in the top 10 with five of the eight motors featured being built before the turn of the century.
"A listing for three VW Kombi vans came in at fifth place and a Series 3 Land Rover in eighth, with 72,594 and 63,555 views respectively," Fuller said.
