There has been no shortage of spectacular fashion this awards season, but the Oscars have arguably taken the cake as the pinnacle of red carpet couture.
The stars were shining - and serving looks - at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday evening (local time) for the 2024 Academy Awards, the red carpet awash with glamour, glitz and gorgeous, gorgeous gowns.
From Ariana Grande's candy pink confection to John Krasinski and Emily Blunt's eye-catching all-white ensembles, the red carpet was every fashionista's playground with plenty of razzle-dazzle and sartorial eye candy.
There were several sculptural silhouettes on show, including Cynthia Erivo's forest green ruffled creation, and a string of sparkling numbers that served old-school Hollywood glamour - think Anya Taylor-Joy's Dior and Michelle Yeoh's sequined extravaganza.
Colours ranged from the ever-classic black, white and metallic silver to bold red, which continues to be one of the season's most popular hues. There was also a swathe of pale pastel blue, from Hailee Steinfeld's ethereal Grecian goddess gown to Lupita Nyong'o's stunning feathered dress. Other blue beauties included Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who won Best Supporting Actress for The Holdovers, Taylor Zakhar Perez, and Ava DuVernay in custom Louis Vuitton.
Meanwhile, Brittany Snow was a standout in her daffodil yellow strapless gown, while the occasional pop of Barbie pink continued to prevail - although this time not by Margot Robbie, who opted for black shimmer.
Several stars, including Billie Eilish, Mark Ruffalo, Ava DuVernay, Riz Ahmed and Ramy Youssef, made a political statement with their ensembles, proudly wearing red Artists4Ceasefire pins to draw attention to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. A group of over 400 celebrities have reportedly joined the campaign, which published a letter last year urging the US Congress and President Joe Biden to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Israel.
Here are some of the standout looks from the 2024 Academy Awards red carpet.

Best Actress winner Emma Stone (for Poor Things) channelled mermaidcore in her custom Louis Vuitton iridescent peplum masterpiece. While the gown shifted colours in the light, it still leaned towards the pale blue hue that appeared to be a popular choice among guests.
Zendaya
The Queen of the Red Carpet can do no wrong and tonight was no exception. The Dune: Part Two star glowed in a pink Armani Privé gown embellished with what appeared to be glittering palm fronds, while the one-sleeve silhouette and embellished bodice peaking through added dimension and intrigue. Tick, tick, tick.
Florence Pugh
The Dune: Part Two star turned heads in her jewel-encrusted Del Core gown and Bulgari jewellery. The sculptural bodice added much-needed intrigue that set her look apart from the other, safer silver gowns.
Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee Steinfeld commanded the red carpet in her ethereal Elie Saab Couture creation. The trailing necktie and gold accents channelled Grecian goddess in the best way possible, while making a case for why blue might be the new red.
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski
Arguably one of the hottest couples of the night, Best Supporting Actress nominee Emily Blunt (for Oppenheimer) served pure glamour in her spangled white Schiaparelli gown, which husband John Krasinski complemented perfectly in his all-white tuxedo. To play off the silver embellishments of Emily's look, John added a sparkling brooch to his lapel.
Lupita Nyong'o
The blue, the feathers, the fit, the jewels - Lupita Nyong'o was simply perfection in her dazzling Armani Privé gown.

Cynthia Erivo
In a nod to her upcoming role as the green witch Elphaba in the movie adaptation of Wicked, Cynthia Erivo rocked a forest green Louis Vuitton leather creation. As always, the singer - nominated alongside her brother Finneas for Best Original Song for 'What Was I Made For?' - was a major point of difference on the red carpet, this time channelling 'Office Siren' in a black blazer, tweed skirt, white socks and Mary Janes with a houndstooth Chanel purse. To accessorise, she also added a Ceasefire pin.

Eva Longoria
There's a reason why a black dress never goes out of style - especially when it's done with a point of difference, like Eva Longoria's Tamara Ralph gown. The form-fitting black creation featured a sculptural off-the-shoulder neckline and sweeping train that oozed Old Hollywood Glamour - but in a 2024 way.
Ariana Grande
The Wicked star was confection-perfection in her candy pink, marshmallow-esque creation. The custom Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown hit all the right notes with its eye-catching silhouette that also resembled a very chic duvet.
