Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland has managed to hold onto its top 10 placement in the 2024 rankings of the world's most liveable cities.
The supercity shares its ninth-placed equal ranking with Osaka, Japan, up from tenth last year.
Pōneke/Wellington moved up three spots to land the 20th place.
Meanwhile, Australia's top-ranking cities tumbled down the list thanks to the country's "acute" housing crisis and record-low availability of rental properties, according to the report's authors.
Melbourne dropped one spot to fourth place, while Sydney dropped three spots to seventh place. Perth (15th) and Brisbane (16th) also fell.
The top-ranked cities are Vienna and Copenhagen, which again came in first and second, respectively.
These rankings are part of the Global Liveability Index published each year by EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit), which owns The Economist newspaper.
Last year, Aotearoa's biggest city ranked 10th equal with Osaka.
The authors of the latest Global Liveability Index said Asian cities are moving up the rankings, while many other cities around the world saw declines.
A total of 173 cities are ranked using scores for stability (political and economic), healthcare, culture, environment, education and infrastructure.
Four of the top 10 cities are in Asia. Hong Kong had the biggest gains, moving up to 50th place (from 61st).
Tel Aviv fell the most of any city, due to Israel's ongoing military actions against Palestinians.
Indian cities on average had declines in their liveability scores, which was blamed on a "challenging climate" and poor air quality.
Barsali Bhattacharyya, deputy industry director at EIU, said Asian cities have improved their healthcare and education recently - but it was a mixed bag.
Data for the rankings were collected over five weeks during February and March.
