Samsung has recently added an AI update to their latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5, bringing new productivity, creativity and communication tools to the most innovative and eye-catching mobiles on the market.

Despite having been mastered over five generations, the Galaxy Z range continues to be perceived as being new and exciting, and still have a major wow factor about them - flip one out and you're sure to be noticed.

"People are really intrigued by our foldable smartphones, they're a bit of a conversation starter," said Madison Hill, Marketing Communications Manager - Flagship Mobile at Samsung NZ.

"They're incredible and innovative phones that have just had a major upgrade with the introduction of Galaxy AI."

One of the key attractions of the Galaxy Z Flip5 is its compact design. When folded it's half the size of a standard modern mobile, but then it can be flipped open to reveal the full screen, offering both portability and nostalgia reminiscent of flip phones from the '90s.

Hill described the Galaxy Z Flip5 as being "a content creator's dream phone". She points out that the way it folds offers a mini tripod-like form factor that allows hands-free photo and video capture, with the impressive main camera rather than an inferior selfie lens.

It's now even better for content creators with the Galaxy AI tools that came with the One UI 6.1 update, including powerful photo and video editing tools and guidance on how to word social media posts for maximum engagement - even auto-generating the hashtags for you.

"I love using Object Eraser, which lets you select any item in a photo and remove it, then the AI generates the background back into it for you," said Hill.

"It's got a whole bunch of other AI-powered editing options, all you have to do is push the Galaxy AI icon on screen and it will provide suggestions on how you can edit and optimise your content, making it super easy for anyone to use."

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold5 provides users with a larger dual-screen, mini-tablet experience, ideal for multitasking and productivity. Using that larger screen area is great for Galaxy AI features like Circle to Search with Google, Chat Assist, Note Assist and Transcript Assist.

"Having two screens is much better than one," said Hill, noting that most of the Galaxy AI tools work without an internet connection. The features you can use offline include Live Translate, which allows users to communicate in real-time across languages, making it ideal for international business or travel.

Hill said being able to get a bullet pointed summary of a long document or webpage instantly generated was a great way to use Galaxy AI on the Galaxy Z Fold5 without the need for third party apps, but the AI feature she's been using most on the device is Circle to Search.

"I use it every day either straight from my phone camera or when I'm scrolling through social media. For instance, if l see an outfit I like, I circle it and instantly get search results for that exact item or something very similar. You can also add prompts to the search, say if you wanted the item in a different colour, you could just type it in and get instant results”.

Some people may be keen to get a foldable phone and be eager to use the new Galaxy AI tools but are worried about changing to the Android operating system. That’s where a free app called ‘Try Galaxy’ comes in handy.

"People who don’t already have a Samsung device can be hesitant about the user interface and not being familiar with it," said Hill.

"But with our new software update, you can customise your interface to look a lot like the device you have now. It will look very familiar, with the widgets and everything, and you can try out the simulated Galaxy AI features at trygalaxy.com on your mobile phone if you're curious or considering the switch to Samsung."
