Milldale will be the name of Auckland's newest suburb, with infrastructure construction already underway.
The new town centre, southwest of Orewa, is expected to host 3500 new homes, NZME reports.
Roads are in place, and Fulton Hogan says it will start construction of the homes around the middle of next year.
"The name Milldale derives from the kauri that was milled from the land in the early 1800's, as far inland as Wainui," the Milldale website reads.
"The development is overlooked by Mt Pleasant to the west, bordered by Wainui Rd and Orewa River to the north, and Pine Valley Rd and Weiti River to the south. The land between forms a natural valley, or dale."
Milldale will sit on the opposite side of State Highway 1 to Millwater, another Fulton Hogan development.
The location sits inside the Auckland urban-rural boundary under the proposed Auckland Unitary Plan.
