A Waikato family has had a remarkable escape after a car flew into the side of their house.
Police were called to the Huntly address shortly before 1am, and found the vehicle wedged into the side of the property.
"I'm not aware of the actual cause the driver has been taken to the police station and charges will probably be pending," says Inspector Cornell Klussein.
He says the owners are lucky not to have been hurt, but can't go back inside until it has been inspected.
"It's fine at the moment, but obviously when you remove the car, damage might be so that it needs to be repaired before people can live in the house."
