A self-confessed porn addict who secretly filmed people in toilets in New Plymouth has escaped a jail sentence.
Gary Fenwick admitted two charges of making an intimate visual recording in July.
The 45-year-old's name suppression lapsed when he was sentenced in the New Plymouth District Court today.
Fenwick recorded people using motion-sensor cameras disguised as clothes hooks and smoke detectors.
The cameras were hidden in the Event Cinema and TSB Showplace toilets.
He was sentenced to four months' community detention, six months' supervision and 100 hours' community work.
Fenwick has previously told the court that he was addicted to "voyeurism pornography".
Figures released under the Official Information Act show that out of 26 successful prosecutions for intimate, covert filming last year, 10 people were jailed.
