Auckland has snapped up a major medical conference Christchurch has missed out on because the planned convention centre won't be ready in time.
It's left a sour taste for the Christchurch organisers who say the Government told them the centre would be up and running.
The $500 million Christchurch convention centre site is right in the middle of the city and was set to be the destination for the first major convention since the earthquakes.
With 800 delegates and a projected $2 million spend, the conference is now Christchurch's loss and Auckland's gain.
