Firefighters are at the site of a blaze that has torn through a house north of Wellington this afternoon.
Fire crews were called out shortly before 2pm and say the whole front of the house, as well as the top two floors, were on fire when they arrived. Fire has been contained to one half of the house.
No one is believed to have been home at the address on State Highway 1 in Paremata, near Porirua, and nobody was injured.
Six fire engines are there dampening down hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
