The man who admitted killing his estranged wife and attempting to murder her daughter and daughter's boyfriend is to be sentenced today.
Brent Scott pleaded guilty last year to murdering 41-year-old Heidi Welman-Scott on Auckland's North Shore in 2014.
He also pleaded guilty to two charges of attempted murder, after critically injuring 23-year-old Taryn Welman and Matija Miletic.
On the day of the killing, Scott hid outside Ms Welman-Scott's Albany home, and slipped in under her garage door as it closed on her return.
He then repeatedly stabbed Ms Welman-Scott with a knife, causing six major wounds, including one through her lung.
Alerted by screams, her daughter Ms Welman and her boyfriend ran to help, but Scott then attacked the pair.
Neighbours found the injured trio lying outside the front of their home.
Ms Welman-Scott died at the scene, while her daughter underwent surgery for a punctured gallbladder, and Mr Miletic was left with internal bleeding.
Scott was later arrested at the airport, while attempting to catch a flight back to his home country of South Africa.
